PS5 Hardware Chip Reballing
Reballing means removing a chip, renewing its solder balls and refitting it. It is used for supported repairs where diagnosis indicates a connection problem under the chip.
Symptoms you might see
- Intermittent faults that change with heat or movement
- A fault that diagnosis traces to connections under a chip
- Problems following a previous heat-based repair attempt

- Solder joint fatigue under a chip after long-term heat cycling
- Poor earlier rework leaving weak joints
